Jisatsu Manyuaru or The Suicide Manual is a very atmospheric and slow paced Japanese movie with some surreal elements. Even though the movie is rather cheap, the simplistic approach fits well to the topic. The camera work is cold and simple, the lighting effects are dimmed down, the dialogues are slow and emotionless, the acting is repetitive and not quite intriguing and the few special effects are mediocre and uncreative. I guess that the negative and depressive flow was intended by the makers of the movie and even though it's hard to sit through the entire feature, I must admit that the result is artistically convincing. There are also a few positive elements in the movie as the music, the more emotional moments and the slightly weird ending. The mysterious story is nothing innovating but enough to keep you guessing until the end.

This movie is about a new phenomenon of mass suicide in Japan at the time which is a real life problem of the society and this feature mixes true facts with fantastic elements and a message that is made clear from the beginning on: suicide is not a solution. Somehow, the attempt of this positive message is though failed. The movie is so dark, depressive and grey that it's definitely not beautiful to watch for disturbed hearts, minds and souls and might evoke a rather suicidal than anti-suicidal feeling. I can't say that it was a joy to watch the movie but it was definitely worth the experience and one realizes how beautiful the real life is after seeing such a movie about bullying, dying and suffering.

In the end, if you like really dark and slow psycho thriller or if you are used to weird Asian cinema, you can give this movie a fair chance. Make sure to loan this flick or watch it online before you buy it because it's not the kind of flick everybody might appreciate and watch several times. Anybody else should even avoid this movie at all costs in my humble opinion and had for a different movie about the same topic.

This is a very emotional, gore and philosophical psycho thriller coming from Thailand that is well played by diversified actors and that has a couple of memorable ideas that lead to a surprising end even though the last sequence of the movie left me somewhat confused, disappointed and empty. Everything in the movie is extreme but it all makes a sense even if you can't be sure what is fiction or reality in the end.

The movie is about the question how far you would go to solve your problems and fight the demons of your past and portrays a young man that has lost everything and has no easy way out to get some money and some respect. The story reminds me a little bit of the great American movie "Falling Down", the intense and sometimes obscure gore moments are similar to the "Saw" series and the structure of the flick is close two "Twelve Rounds" with the exception that you have thirteen unholy steps to triumph or agony.

The movie is rather fast paced and always entertaining but it would have definitely needed a better conclusion concerning the reasons behind the events you see throughout the whole film and what happens to the characters after these events. This is why I cut off one point out of my final rating while the rest is nothing truly innovating but always intense entertainment and another great modern movie coming from some creative masterminds in Asia.

          Le Festival des Glaces s’est déroulé dans son onzième édition du 17 au 26 février 2012 à Saint-Gédéon entre Alma et Métabetchouan-Lac-à-la-Croix au Lac-Saint-Jean.

Le site du festival était plutôt petit en comparaison avec le grand événement régional de Saguenay en Neige qui avait eu lieu quelques semaines avant, mais offrait néanmoins une panoplie d’activités pour les visiteurs de tout âge comme des glissades, une patinoire ou des terrains de jeux pour enfants tout autour de l’hôtel de ville au centre de la petite municipalité d’environ deux milles habitants. Une tente bien remplie offrait une bonne ambiance avec de la musique populaire, des mets spéciaux et quelques événements diversifiés comme des tournois de poker.

Ceux qui préféraient une atmosphère plus tranquille pouvaient se retirer à cinq minutes de marche à pied dans la petite maison boisée et très chaleureuses de la micro-brasserie du Lac-Saint-Jean qui offre des sortes de bières diverses, des petits plats à manger et de temps en temps des petits spectacles de musique ou d’humoristes. En été, le Bar le St-Géd accueille de nombreux jeunes visiteurs de partout de la région qui profitent du beau temps pour faire la fête juste à côté sauf quand c’est le grand défilé de la fête de la Saint Jean-Baptiste qui encourage la participation de toute la ville.

                  Le festival lui-même offrait d’ailleurs également une panoplie d’activités comme des ateliers de danse, des courses de motoneige, les Olympiades hivernales, des  tours de poney et de traîneaux à chiens, deux spectacles musicaux et un grand tirage pour cloitre le festival. Malgré la participation de sculpteurs professionnels autour de Michel et Marc Lepire et des sculpteurs amateurs, il y avait encore trop peu de sculptures sur le terrain, mais vu que la renommée du festival semble augmenter à chaque année, on espère voir davantage de sculptures et encore de visiteurs lors de la douzième édition.

         Après les huit succès mondiaux des films de la série filmographique d’Harry Potter d’après les romans de Joanne Rowling, le jeune acteur britannique Daniel Radcliffe a décidé d’aller plus loin et de faire partie du film de suspense et d’horreur dramatique «La Dame en Noir» du réalisateur James Watkins (33 ans, Cauchemar au Lac de l’Eden) d’après une nouvelle de Susan Hill.

L’histoire avait déjà été adaptée pour la télévision britannique en 1989 et ironiquement, le rôle principal avait été joué par Adrian Rawlins, l’acteur qui jouait également le père d’Harry Potter. La pièce a également déjà été adaptée comme pièce de théâtre ordinaire et radiophonique. Les connections personnelles vont encore plus loin dans ce nouveau film car l’enfant qui joue le fils de Daniel Radcliffe ou son alter ego Arthur Kipps est en réalité son filleul. Le fait que la petite amie de Daniel Radcliffe, une assistante de production du nom de Rosie Coker, joue la mystérieuse femme en noir dans plusieurs scènes est un autre détail à mentionner. C’est grâce à ces éléments que le jeu d’acteurs est de très grande qualité dans ce film et beaucoup plus authentique que dans les derniers films d’Harry Potter qui laissaient mourir des personnages importants en quelques instants superficiels entre deux scènes de combat exagérés et assimilés au style d’Hollywood. Le fait que Daniel Radcliffe choisisse ici un film plus atmosphérique, plus noir et plus terre-à-terre au lieu de s’engager dans un projet de film américain démontre qu’il voulait faire changement et qu’il a choisi la meilleure histoire et non nécessairement le travail le plus payant.

À part du jeu d’acteur, le film sait convaincre avec ses effets de sons entre les bruits abruptes et agressants et les moments d’une tranquillité étouffante et menaçante. Les effets de la lumière sont également efficaces et donnent une touche de film noir ou de film d’horreur classique à cette nouvelle sortie. La musique lourde, mélancolique et simpliste marche parfaitement avec le reste. Le film effraie beaucoup avec ces éléments plutôt qu’avec des effets spéciaux, des morts dramatiques ou des scènes sanglantes. Les costumes, les maquillages ainsi que les mises en scènes et les paysages projettent les cinéastes dans une Angleterre rurale très fermée d’esprit, grise et isolée au début du vingtième siècle qui nous met mal à l’aise. Les sons et images sont impressionnants et fonctionnent le mieux au cinéma, mais également sur une télévision de bonne qualité lorsque le film sort prochainement en DVD ou BluRay. Dès le début du film, on sent une atmosphère dépressive, négative et xénophobe qui nous donne des frissons. Le spectateur est plongé dans une atmosphère profonde qui le garde accroché jusqu’à la toute fin de ce film sans longueurs qui a une fin assez artistique du point de vue cinématographique.

La seule petite faiblesse du film est son histoire qui est plutôt ordinaire et sa fin qui est un peu trop prévisible pour les amateurs du genre. Le jeune avocat veuf et père d’un jeune garçon Arthur Kipps doit se rendre en campagne sous la pression de son employeur qui n’est pas satisfait avec son travail, mais qui veut lui laisser une dernière chance pour se reprendre. Il doit rapporter quelques documents d’une femme décédée qui a vécu en isolement dans une villa sur une petite île qui n’est accessible en voiture lors de la marée basse. Les habitants du village proche de la villa rencontrent le jeune avocat avec une hostilité ouverte et il n’y a que Sam Daily qui a perdu son enfant dans des circonstances mystérieuses et qui doit vivre en enfer avec une femme très labile qui le soutient dans ses recherches. Bientôt, Arthur Kipps tombe sur une série de morts parmi les enfants du village hanté et se rend compte que ces horreurs qui hantent la région est en lien avec un drame familial qui s’est passé dans la villa sombre. Il doit résoudre le secret avant que la vie de son propre garçon qui s’en vient pour lui rendre visite entre en jeu. En passant la nuit la plus effrayante de sa vie dans la villa, il veut découvrir la réalité afin de savoir s’il fait face à une meurtrière folle déguisée ou à des forces surnaturelles d’un fantôme. Avez-vous le courage de vivre cette nuit fatale avec lui?

This album is in the top 3 of my favourite metal albums of all time. In this moment, I would class this album on the second position just after The Vision Bleak's "Carpathia - A dramatic poem". I personally think that 2005 has been the greatest metal year of the last decade.

"The perpetual motion" has everything that an exceptional metal album needs. It is atmospheric and emotional, it is very gothic and bleak which I like a lot. The songs are diversified, surprising and there are a lot of things to get discovered even after multiple listenings. The musicians are all doing an outstanding job. The drummer is an animal and plays extremely tight, the bass guitar is audible and energizing, the guitar does some really dreamy and spacey solos and the singer does melancholic chants, whispering sounds, emotionally melodic parts and aggressive growls and does the job of four or five singers. The album is intense and empathic and always authentic. You can feel the sorrow, loss and melancholy the band is talking about and you really get drowned into a maelstrom of negative emotions but not without recognizing that there is still a little shining, a little sign of hope above all in this music. You can see images and feel particular emotions just by listening to different parts of different songs on this epic masterpiece that unites ambient music, progressive metal, death metal, gothic and dark metal. I would just call this Progressive Gothic Metal at it's very best to keep it short and sweet.

The songs, well, they are all amazing. The dark gothic metal song "Out of breath" opens and penetrates your soul like a frosty wind.

"Unrelenting" opens the "Lost boy" story line and surprises with tribal drums, amazing sound effects and transports you from one emotion to the other within seconds. "I can't get rid of it" follows that cluster and becomes a maelstrom of voices. The melodramatic "What else could we've said" is really atmospheric and gives us a little break, before "So be it" goes straight to your face without pity and blows you away. It is an excellent finale for the "Lost boy" story line of the album.

"Everyday life" opens the "Down" cycle and story line of the album and begins like a jam session before melancholic vocals and a dreamy piano introduce into a very dynamical and diversified song that goes straight over to "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8" that surprises with dominant bass riffs before the very melancholic and dreamy "By the way" leads you towards the aggressive verses of "My friends" that has a very catchy chorus to finish this chapter with the spacey, melancholically and calm "Even if".

The last two songs form "The sad fairytale" and leave you in a depressive and profound tranquility where harmony and melancholy unite and drown you into a completely grey and rainy universe of wind and wuthering of the emotions.

The music is over and minutes after the last sound has gone, you are still there thinking and dreaming about what you have heard. You seem frozen and emotionless and realize that this album is a depressive drug. You won't live the intense emotions another time, but you can't fight your desire and press play again.

This album touches me very much, it is so rich of emotions and atmosphere and gets never boring. It is a truly amazing experience that everyone should experience by himself or herself to understand what I am trying to talk about. Lay down on a couch in a dark room, close your eyes and let your spirit and soul travel on the waves of those amazing sounds for just a little bit more than forty minutes of your life. You won't regret it. I can't even create enough words to describe the aura of this masterpiece and one of my favourite albums.

It is such a shame that this band has broken up, I wish they would come back. Nevertheless, but their amazing album and support them! Make yourself a present and enjoy!
