    Hevein - Nor (2011)

That's what I call a very unusual single. After six years of silence the very interesting Finnish band "Hevein" comes back with a single song of a length of almost ten minutes that honours the first Australians and their country. Alongside with the song comes a truly beautiful video clips with impressing images of that country that must be taken from some high quality documentary. Don't ask me why the band decided to honour this country in such an epic way but I must admit that those images and this music made me know this country, its nature and its culture a little bit better.

The song itself has very cold and melancholic vibes that have almost and electronic or industrial sound. It reminds me of a mixture of "Depeche Mode" with lyrics that sound like modern "Metallica" or something similar. Some sample sounds give this track a modern ambient touch. The changes of style and the mysterious atmosphere remind slightly of other Finnish bands such as "Apocalyptica" in their early years or "Amorphis" in their middle years. Even though the song is monotonous or hypnotizing to use a more positive expression, it reminds highly interesting in over nine minutes of length. The track is very coherent but small changes of style like a calm and eerie bridge and the energizing shouts in the finish keep the pace and interest high. Lyrics, images and music become one in this weird and highly addicting piece of art that grows with every new approach. I must say that I didn't expect something like that from "Hevein" after so many years. I'm truly impressed and have never known a song like this before. It has taken six years to create this piece of art but every month waiting for this was worth it in the end. Within the years I drifted away from this original band and almost forgot about them but now they got me back for good.

I hope to listen to an entire new album of this band in the near future as this brilliant single proves that they still have lots to say. Anybody that adores courageous, experimental and atmospheric metal music should check this great song out at all costs or simply purchase it for a low price on the band's official homepage with some intriguing wallpapers.
