The greatest way to appreciate psychological thriller Companion is to watch it without any previous knowledge. Don't watch the trailer. Don't read any summaries. Don't look for reviews. All of these elements might include gigantic spoilers and significantly lower your enjoyment of a very good movie. Let's simply say that this film is about a group of friends who get together for a weekend at an isolated cabin in the woods before things drastically spiral out of control.
On the positive side, the different characters and their respective flaws and strengths are certainly quite entertaining. The tension built up throughout the film should keep viewers on the edges of their seats. The movie's philosophical depth on the pulse of time might offer some food for thought and discussion.
On the negative side, the film's general idea isn't exactly new. Several similar movies have been shot in the past decades. Some of them are cleverer than Companion, others are almost on the exact same level and a few have been executed with less care. Since my intention is to not spoil the readers' experience of this film, I won't be writing down any titles but I might assume that a few titles might even come to your minds after having experienced this movie.
At the end of the day, Companion is a gripping psychological thriller with fascinating characters, philosophical depth and captivating tension. Watch this movie without any prior knowledge and be ready to get surprised.
