After the overrated hypes around series such as "Twilight" and the last "Harry Potter" movies that are based on artificial special effects and rather mediocre acting I didn't expect too much from this new series that start with "The Hunger Games". To...
There are numerous terms that can be used to describe German quintet Die Apokalyptischen Reiter but boring certainly isn't one of them. The band has explored numerous gernes from extreme metal to acoustic folk rock and everything in between. Some results...
Custard is a solid German power metal band with history and fantasy lyrics that are interesting to listen to. Their debut record has a few strong tracks but offers nothing we haven't heard before. The band delivers epic fist pumping hymns in the style...
Neruda is a biographical drama that shows how Chilean poet and communist politician Pablo Neruda escaped the fascist regime of his home country to Argentine and later on to France. Even for those who are interested in Chilean culture and history, Neruda...
“A pale horse named death” is a band with a very cool name and a great album cover that plays first of all a melancholic mixture of gothic and doom metal in the key of “Type 0 Negative”. Even though the influence of this band is omnipresent and weighs...

Unimaginative, Repetitive and Lazy Industrial Rock on a Downward Spiral - A Review of Stahlmann's Quarz Inspired by the success of Neue Deutsche Härte icons such as Rammstein, Oomph! and Megaherz, Stahlmann saw the light of day thirteen years ago and...
I had the chance to watch the brand new Japanese comedy movie "Robo G" on an Air Canada flight a couple of days ago and I quite enjoyed this movie. Let's cite the negative things first as there aren't too many. The movie has a couple of lengths towards...
Feuerschwanz is a party metal band that doesn't take itself seriously at all. The band is best described as a medieval version of Powerwolf. The band plays simple heavy metal with exotic instruments such as bagpipes, bouzouki, hurdy gurdy and violin....

As a matter of fact, Chernobyl Diaries is another rather generic horror movie with only a few truly shocking scenes and a quite predictable ending. The only thing that makes this release a little bit more special than other horror movies of the same kind...

This is the second part of my little review series: Movies that are way better than you expect. "Steel trap" seems at first sight to be another ordinary psychological thriller or slasher movie in the shadows of the great "The cube", "Mind Hunters" and...

On an objective level, both critics and fans don't seem to know what a good movie is anymore. "Mad Max: Fury Road" may be filled with nearly two hours of breathtaking non-stop action sequences and a couple of great special effects, settings or locations...
Only two years after the band's very strong self titled album, the American extreme metal legends come back with a shorter record called "Abzu" that reminds a lot of the previous output. The cover artwork is as great, the album and song title structures...
In Extremo is not only the most popular “medieval rock” band, but also my favorite German band. I’ve been a fan since I first heard the successful “Küss Mich” single from the album Sieben eleven years ago. Today, I have seen them three times live, have...
Even though the movie got a bunch of negative critics by fans of the game series, I happen to like "Max Payne" a lot for different reasons. First of all, the movie is visually stunning and develops an amazingly intense and constant film noir atmosphere....
Project Wolf Hunting, originally known as Neugdaesanyang, is one of the most brutal movies I have ever watched in my life. This South Korean film of two hours and two minutes is best described as gory action thriller. The story revolves around a group...

Releasing a live album without an actual audience is a rather strange idea but then again, it fits with Katatonia's elegiac rock sounds. The Swedish quintet offers twenty songs with a total running time of just below one hour and a half. It focuses on...
So many so-called Viking Metal bands such as the old legends of Bathory, the very popular Amon Amarth or rather recent bands like Tyr have all sung about the history of the Vikings, some of them have done very innovating and progressive jobs as others...
