After a solid but overall less convincing fifth installment, the sixth entry in the psychological horror franchise is a step in the right direction without reaching the quality of the first four movies. The film has a strong moral side as the test subject...
The Road to OR-Shalem is not only a highly recommendable live record but also a collection of Orphaned Land's greatest hits of their early works and therefor a great starting point for anyone who wants to discover the quintet's epic Middle Eastern folk...
Ladies and gentlemen! Today, I have completed my epic ice hockey weekend by assisting the home opener of the Ottawa 67's against the Peterborough Petes. The game was very intense and enjoyable to watch despite a tough 3:2 loss by the home team. The crowd...
This movie is well described with one word: "depression". The whole atmosphere of the film is just depressive, melancholic, sadistic, boring and senseless. Everything is grey, everyone is unhappy, everything is going wrong. Concerning the atmosphere,...
This very last album with Piggy on the guitar is one of the most diversified albums of the band and though there are some interesting science-fiction conceptual sound samples which connect the songs, this albums has somehow the mood of a compilation album....
From a House on Willow Street is a supernatural horror movie that oozes with atmosphere but comes around with a very exchangeable plot that has been used over and over again in similar ways in the horror movie genre. The film revolves around four young...
Don't worry, Japanese Folk Metal isn't as unimaginative as its genre specification, band name and album title might suggest. The sextet from Tokyo and Yokohama plays an entertaining mixture of folk metal and melodic death metal that recalls European bands...
Originally, this is one movie with a length of approximatively two hours. For an unknown reason, the movie was though cut into two pieces, at least for the North American release. Both movies have a running time for about eighty minutes but this is part...
Brazilian power metal Armored Dawn sextet surely knows a lot about music business and how to promote its material. The band's first promotional EP was released with numerous rock and metal magazines from all around the world. Pretty much any metal fan...

After many positive reviews and enthusiastic mentions on numerous lists for album of the year, I decided to give Power Trip a second chance. I had seen the band in concert with Iron Reagan last year but hadn't been particularly impressed. Nightmare Logic...
Ladies and gentlemen! Here are a few pictures from the first day of my short autumn road trip. On the first day, I drove all the way from Gatineau to Peterborough. Weather was cloudy but dry. The small towns I have discovered are really gorgeous. Anglican...
Les Affamés, also known as The Ravenous in English, is a French- Canadian survival horror movie. It manages to stand out because it focuses on strong characters and their will to live instead of the usual stereotypes. As a matter of fact, the term zombie...
Before I Fall is best described as a contemporary feminist take on Groundhog Day. It tells the story of high school student Samantha who seems to have a quite normal life. She lives with her friendly parents and her good-spirited little sister. She has...
A Cure of Wellness is one of the best Western movies in recent memory and it's a mystery to me why this film didn't get the attention it deserved. Many people claim that it bombed at the box office. That's not surprising because I was actively trying...
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is the second part of the dystopian trilogy about a group of teenagers immune to a virus that has decimated humanity who are hunted by a shady organization. This great second part is an improvement over the solid first movie....
In Extremo is not only the most famous medieval rock outfit but also one of Germany’s most spectacular live bands. It’s impressive to see the seven members on a well decorated stage while they perform exotic instruments such as davuls, harps, mandolin,...
Historical drama with depth and grit While everbody seems to be going crazy over Christopher Nolan's new science-fiction epic Tenet, I must admit that I have prefered Chinese historical military drama The Eight Hundred a little bit more. The movie tells...
This film tells the story of a young thief who gets involved in the story of an ancient curse: an ancient military hero got cursed by a jealous and egoistic priest to live as a wolf by night and his beautiful girlfriend as a hawk by day so that they could...
In times of "Silly Clones" of legendary rock'n'roll bands and rock revival times, Voivod contribute in their own unique style to this new trend and create an amazingly fresh rock'n'roll record with ten heavily addicting and straight songs. They are all...
This album is situated in between the thrash metal era and the progressive metal and even progressive rock era of the band. And though there are some really great songs on this album, there is a certain straightness, a clear line, a certain kick of creativity,...
The Street Fighter is a Japanese martial arts film that stands out with its rough fights and graphic brutality. Main character Tsurugi Takuma is a tough guy with quite a temper who is able to rip out his opponent's eyes, testicles and vocal chords. The...
This album has been a really big step forward for Voivod. It is more unique, diversified and elaborated in regard to the technical and especially lyrical quality than the first two albums. Voivod present a really cutting-edge and straight thrash metal...
The first album of Voivod is surely one of the best debut albums that I know. Even though the sound and the song writing of the album are far away from being perfect, the band has already its own unique sound and sounds very energetic, straight, rough,...
