In Extremo - Siehst du das Licht (2011)

In Extremo decided to release their most courageous song from the excellent last record as a second single with a great little bonus song. After the very catchy hymn "Zigeunerskat" I think that this output that we have here is even a greater choice. But maybe they could release a more commercial release as a third single like “Hol die Sterne” in the near future because this unique song won’t probably hit the commercial nerve which is a sad thing. But a true fan doesn’t care about commercial achievements but rather about quality standards and that’s why anybody that reads this on the archives should give this track a try and look for it.

I am very happy with the chosen song that is amongst the five best songs the band has ever written in my opinion. It has an amazingly eerie and dreamy feeling with many delicate sound effects. The floating melodies remind some experimental progressive rock while the chorus is straight and powerful. The folk elements underline both passages even though they are a little bit in the background. This strange duality seems surprising in the beginning but grows with the time. I like both sides of the song as they give me chilling goose bumps and add something new to the band's already quite diversified universe. Anybody that likes progressive folk music and catchy hard rock might be surprised how well those styles fit together in here.

The bonus song of this single has already been included on a limited download edition for the studio album but it was worth putting this excellent track on the single as he merits further attention. "Heut Morgen" is calm feel good song with a very peaceful mood that tends towards a slightly spacey progressive mood that fits to the first song. What stands out in this song are the interesting drum loops and a dominating bass guitar which are two elements that one doesn't find very often within the band's sound. I don't understand why this little gem hasn't been included on the last record and it's good to see that this brilliant song is no honoured by finding its way on the single even though the track could have easily been itself a single.

Another little gem included on the single is an enhanced video clip of a shortened version of the single. It's nice to watch and surely better than the last video clip but nothing outstanding.

The only negative point about this single is that they could have included more bonus material or a special gimmick like the card set for the last single. That pulls the final rating a little bit down but not by much as the two tracks included on this soon rare to find single are both excellent. I highly suggest any collector or fan of the band to grab this release as soon as possible. This may also hopefully push this excellent title song into the German Media-Control-Charts and also help spreading the name of this already rather popular band outside of Germany, too.
