• Until Dawn (2015)

Until Dawn is a survival horror video game developed dy Supermassive Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. This game is one of the greatest games I have played in a very long time and might even be my favorite game of all times.

The game follows eight young adults who spend a weekend in a cabin in the Canadian woods one year after two of their friends died there under mysterious circumstances. Soon, the eight friends sense that they aren't alone on that strange mountain somewhere in Alberta. Step by step, they uncover the numerous stunning mysteries of this abandoned place and their lives are soon in danger. Telling you anything more would take away from the brilliant plot that goes back to classical thrillers and horror stories somewhere between Agatha Christie and Stephen King.

Until Dawn convinces on numerous levels. First of all, the atmosphere of this game is gloomy, mysterious and uneasy from start to finish.

The challenge level is extremely elevated because there are many different possibilities related to the possible outcome of the story.

The controls are quite tough and add to the challenge level since you have to press the right buttons in a short amount of time to take the right decision and save someone's life.

The game flow is quite fluid from start to finish but I personally prefer the first half of the game that is strictly related to a sinister tale of revenge while the second part has a more supernatural twists which means that we almost get two games in one.

The graphics are stunning and add to the game's gloomy atmosphere. Especially the winter landscapes look quite realistic.

The game doesn't only have a reasonable length somewhere between eight and ten hours but can also be played over and over again because the decisions taken by the gamer have significant impacts in the future and playing the game again by taking different decisions will change the entire outcome of the game.

It's the kind of game that never gets boring and can be played over and over again which explains the elevated long-term fun factor.

The sound effects are creepy and intense. Make sure to play this game in the dark with an elevated volume to get fully absorbed by it.

The soundtrack helps creating an immersive and intense atmosphere.

The story isn't exactly new but perfectly executed.

To keep it short, if you are a young adult and like clever thrillers and gloomy horror stories, there is no way you can get around Until Dawn. The spin-off Until Dawn: Rush of Blood doesn't have anything to do with the brilliant original game presented here. However, a prequel entitled The Inpatient, which takes place in the same locations as the original game but sixty years prior to the events portrayed in Until Dawn, is going to be released in November 2017. There is no doubt that I'm going to purchase this prequel. If it's only nearly as good as Until Dawn, it's going to be a contender for game of the year.

  • ''Each time there is another news about another senseless thing Trump does, I feel so relieved to not live in his country, especially being an immigrant myself.

That's quite a sad thing considering the United States is one of the most beautiful, diversified and unique countries in the world. Aside of some corrupt or war-torn developing countries, I couldn't imagine a worse place to live than in the United States these days, especially if compared to other countries in the Western World.

Trump will not destroy this country as many people suggest but surely throw it back several years, harm its natural evolution and destroy most of its positive reputation in the world which is already an ongoing process.

It's a mystery to me that a country supposedly filled with so many proud patriots lets him do this. It's also a mystery that so many immigrants let him do that. It's also a mystery that the Democrats aren't actively trying to find ways to change things around and work on a potential comeback.

I'm not in favor of demonstrations and riots in general but it's kind of worrying to see that there isn't much going on in that regard right now either. Getting used to his antics by overlooking them, resigning yourself or tolerating them is quite dangerous.

Trump was elected and deserved his chance as a President no matter what people said. I'm the first one to say that because I believe in democracy. It might not be the perfect system but the best that exists in our world. However, more than half a year after the start of Donald Trump's Presidency, it should be obvious to the majority of Americans that he doesn't do this noble profession and important role any justice.

If the Republicans want to remain credible and have a chance to win any other elections in the near future, they should be faithful to their own values and choose to get rid of a man who only cares about himself and not his party and who is dragging everyone down with him. I understand that parties care mostly about influence, money and power but there must be a breaking point somewhere. Now would be the time for the Republicans to show their true identity. If nothing happens, people will take radical actions and things could escalate very quickly. Now is the time to prevent further damage.

Abraham Lincoln must be spinning in his grave.''

  • Ladies and gentlemen,

This post is the start of a new experiment. I will occasionally comment on economic, political and social issues that are important to me. This is my personal opinion and I don't claim to be any smarter than the next guy. That's why you're invited to discuss my and your thoughts and debate in the comments section. The first topic is Donald Trump's Presidency which is an issue that doesn't only involve the United States of America but the entire world since the American President is probably still the most powerful person in the world. I tried to keep my comment as short as possible. Please let me know what you think!

  • Motörhead - Under Cöver (2017)

Legendary rock band Motörhead has released numerous outstanding cover tracks throughout the forty years of its incredible career. The group's first single included a cover of Eddie Holland's ''Leavin' Here''. The second single included a rendition of Pink Fairies' ''City Kids''. The band's first studio record even included tight renditions of Hawkwind's ''Motörhead'', ''Lost Johnny'' and ''The Watcher''. The album included a fourth cover song with Tiny Bradshaw's ''The Train Kept-a-Rollin'''. An underrated classic is the band's rendition of Richard Berry's ''Louie Louie''. Think of the cool cover version of Girlschool's ''Emergency'' and Motörhead's collaboration with Girlschool to record Johnny Kidd & The Pirates' ''Please Don't Touch''. I could mention many more excellent examples.

Now, what do all of the aforementioned tracks in common? That's right, none of them is included on Under Cöver, a release that is supposed to showcase the band's greatest cover songs. This fact basically nullifies the purpose of this questionable release alone. It's another example for a cheap attempt by a label to grab some cash from nostalgic fans and to take advantage of Lemmy's legacy in the most disgraceful way.

Let's get this clear. The songs on this record are mostly very good. Motörhead's raw rendition of Judas Priest's ''Breaking the Law'' might be better than the original version, the ferocious garage rock take on Metallica's ''Whiplash'' kicks ass and Sex Pistols' ''God Save the Queen'' underlines the band's rebellious spirit and connection to the reckless spirit of the punk scene. There is a reason why punks, rock fans and metal maniacs equally admire Motörhead. It's just that this release itself is incomplete and doesn't do this legendary band any justice.

The only reason why this record doesn't get the worst possible rating is the inclusion of a previously unreleased cover song which is basically the only reason to potentially buy this release. Motörhead covered David Bowie's thoughtful anthem ''Heroes'' to honor one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century a few months before Lemmy passed away himself. This makes said rendition even more emotional and nostalgic. The song might not be Motörhead's most convincing cover song but it's one of the most authentic, emotional and personal ones and manages to send shivers down my spine.

To keep it short, grab this record if you can find it for five bucks or less to experience the band's hypnotizing, nostalgic and thoughtful rendition of David Bowie's ''Heroes''. This song is the only redeeming quality of this cheap and incomplete compilation. An extensive greatest hits collection of the band would have made much more sense than exchangeable product here.
